Prague Castle tickets

Prague Castle sells entry as a handful of different circuits rather than one single ticket, plus a separate guided-tour option that bundles entry with a guide – worth understanding both before you book, since the standard question isn't "which ticket" so much as "ticket alone, or ticket with a guide."

The ticket circuits

The most useful circuit for a first visit covers St Vitus Cathedral, the Old Royal Palace, St George's Basilica and the Golden Lane – the row of small, colourful former guards' houses along the castle walls. A pricier circuit adds the Story of Prague Castle exhibition and the Powder Tower on top of all that; a cheaper one drops back to just the cathedral and its towers, a reasonable fallback if your visit is under 90 minutes. The castle's courtyards, gardens and the cathedral's exterior don't need any ticket at all.

Ticket alone, or a guided tour

A straightforward entry ticket gets you into the paid interiors at your own pace, with no set schedule beyond your entry time. The guided alternative bundles that same entry with roughly two and a half hours of a guide walking you through the history as you go, plus a tram ride up to the castle from the Lesser Town – useful if you'd rather have the story explained on the spot than piece it together from panels and a guidebook. The price gap between the two is real – expect the guided version to cost noticeably more than the ticket alone – but it buys you the guide's time specifically, not just a better ticket.

Booking

The official entry ticket is the simplest option if you're happy exploring at your own pace. If you'd rather have a guide, book the guided tour including admission instead – either way, book ahead in summer, when timed slots do sell out on the busiest days.

Frequently asked questions

The standard visitor circuit covers St Vitus Cathedral's nave, the Old Royal Palace, St George's Basilica and the Golden Lane – the core interior sights most first-time visitors want. Higher circuits add extras like the Story of Prague Castle exhibition; cheaper ones cover only the cathedral and towers.
