Gubałówka is the hill directly above Zakopane, and the three-minute funicular ride to its summit is one of the most-searched single names in the town's tourism – more than the ride itself would suggest, since the real draw is what's waiting at the top.
The ride and the view
The funicular climbs to about 1,122m in roughly 3.5 minutes – short and easy, not a scenic journey in its own right. What you're paying for is the panorama at the summit: Zakopane spread out below, and the full ridge of the Tatra Mountains behind it, one of the better all-round views in the area without a serious hike to earn it.
Not Kasprowy Wierch
This is worth repeating because it trips up a lot of trip planning: Gubałówka is a short, low hill. Kasprowy Wierch is a much higher peak reached by a longer, separate cable car. They are not interchangeable, and a tour that includes one does not necessarily include the other.
Booking it
There isn't a strong standalone ticket product for just the funicular – in practice, almost everyone experiences Gubałówka as one stop on a wider day trip that also covers thermal baths and a highland food stop, which usually works out better value than booking the ride alone anyway. At the top, there's a small market with food stalls and souvenirs, and in winter, gentle beginner ski slopes – a common first stop for anyone taking a ski lesson for the first time.
