Hydropolis is Poland's only science centre built entirely around water, and the building is as much the draw as the exhibits. It occupies a 19th-century underground reservoir that supplied Wrocław's drinking water from the 1890s until 2011, later listed as a historic monument before its conversion into a museum in 2015 – vaulted brick chambers doing double duty as gallery space.

What's actually inside

The exhibition runs through a series of themed zones – oceans and marine life, the history of water engineering, how modern cities manage water supply, and a dedicated children's area – mostly interactive rather than static display cases. It rewards curiosity more than a quick walk-through would suggest from the outside.

Where it fits in a Wrocław itinerary

Hydropolis isn't a headline attraction the way the Old Town or Cathedral Island are, but it's a genuinely good second-day option, especially with children or on a day when the weather rules out more walking. The setting alone – water exhibits inside a former water reservoir – gives it a coherence a lot of science centres don't have.

Booking

Entry tickets cover the full exhibition and are simple to book online or at the door. Plan for around two hours if you're visiting with kids who'll want to work through each interactive zone.
